To gather feedback on DMS 949 Code of practices for safety in welding and cutting (First revision). This standard is for the protection of persons from injury and illness and the protection of property (including equipment) from damage by fire and explosions arising from welding, cutting, and allied processes.
This standard is for the guidance of educators, operators, managers, and supervisors in the safe setup and use of welding and cutting equipment, and the safe performance of welding and cutting operations. Specific provisions are included for oxyfuel gas and arc welding and cutting, resistance welding, electron beam welding, laser beam cutting and welding, and brazing and soldering.
This standard does not include the following:
a) Guidelines for the design or manufacture of equipment
b) Building piping systems
c) Pipeline protection systems and station outlet equipment
d) Bulk gas supply systems
e) Building electrical installations
Nothing in this standard is intended to prevent the use of systems, methods, or devices of equivalent or superior quality, strength, fire resistance, effectiveness, durability, and safety over those prescribed by this standard. Technical documentation shall be submitted to the authority having jurisdiction to demonstrate equivalency. The system, method, or device shall be approved for the intended purpose by the authority having jurisdiction.
